How information is used
Information supports sign-in, saved items, ownership review, community submissions, newsletter interests and content management. Authorized staff use relevant submissions to review corrections, moderate content and maintain the directory. Administrative actions may be recorded in private audit history for accountability and security.
Anonymization and aggregate analytics
Usage analytics — shares, map use, invites and the signals behind “Popular” and “Shared often” labels — are stored only as anonymous daily totals with no account, email or precise location attached. Map areas are rounded to roughly 1 km. Popular labels appear only once several different people have acted, and never show who. Staff dashboards show totals only.
Your saves, searches, collections and recommendation history are private to you. Admin audit history keeps who on staff did what for accountability; staff exports mask resident emails and phone numbers by default. Per-person invite links are removed after 90 days and old notifications after 180 days. Signed-in residents can download their data or request deletion from their profile.
Location
Location is optional and Off by default. You can choose Off, an approximate home area you pick yourself, or precise location while using the site. Precise location is requested from your device only when you turn it on or tap My location or Near Me; it is used in your browser for that visit to sort and center nearby places, and it is not stored on our servers. There is no background tracking.
A chosen home area and your availability choices are saved privately to your account to tune suggestions. They are not shown on your profile, sold or shared. You can change your choice or use “Clear location data” at any time from your profile or the Discover map, and you can revoke device permission in your browser’s site settings.
Public content and directory sources
Published profiles and approved contributions can be visible to visitors. Business facts may be aggregated from publicly available sources, including Google. Editorial context and source-backed information are presented with their qualifications; public business information is separate from private account details and moderation notes.
Uploading or submitting material does not automatically publish it. Avoid including other people’s private information without permission.
Service providers and third-party links
Providers supporting hosting, account access, storage and site operations process information needed to deliver those services. Choosing Google sign-in involves Google and the sign-in service. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts. Maps, videos and other third-party content may contact their providers when loaded; external websites have their own privacy practices.
Third-party providers may receive technical information such as your IP address, device/browser information and the requested resource. Review their policies when using their services.
Browser storage and security
The site uses browser storage for sign-in sessions and selected preferences, such as appearance and certain workspace navigation settings. Clearing browser storage may sign you out or reset preferences. Access controls restrict private account and administrative information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Retention and your choices
Information is retained as needed for the site’s functions, moderation, security and applicable obligations. Some records, including administrative audit history, may need to remain after related content changes.
You can manage saved items and available profile settings from your account. For questions about access, correction, newsletter removal or deletion of your information, use Contact & Feedback. Requests may require identity confirmation; some records may need to be retained where required or reasonably necessary.
Contact about privacyUpdate and digest preferences
Account update preferences store your selected interests, followed areas, requested delivery rhythm and consent. You can change these choices or unsubscribe from account updates using Update preferences. Email delivery is not connected yet; saving preferences or previewing a digest does not send an email. Newsletter-only signups remain separate; Contact & Feedback can handle removal requests for those signups.
